Baby Carleigh Brooke Corbitt surprised everyone at the hospital, including her own parents. 29-year old Chrissy Corbitt from Florida expected a baby around 10 pounds with her enormous belly before she gave birth since her first children were born weighing around 9 to 10-pounds but she was not expecting to give birth to a 13 pounds and 5 ounces baby. Baby Carleigh was delivered through C-section and was the biggest baby her doctor has ever delivered. Corbitt said that she remembers hearing the people at the delivery room laughing and cheering as they pull out the baby from her belly.
“When the baby was coming out, I was like, is this baby ever going to end? Everybody in the room kind of just stopped during the delivery and was like, Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!” Dr. Eric Edelenbos said as he remembers delivering Baby Carleigh. She could not believe how huge her baby was when she saw her and felt like she was looking at a toddler. She even joked that the baby would just get up and walk to the nursery. It is mind-blowing to know that Baby Carleigh could’ve grown even bigger if she weren’t born 6 days earlier.
Baby Carleigh’s father, 38-year old Larry Corbitt said that he noticed that his wife wasn’t getting bigger with the same weight however, it seems like her belly keeps on getting bigger that it looked like she has a gigantic beach ball getting more and more bloated. They had to keep her at the NICU for a while so that her blood sugar levels can be tested. Medical professionals mentioned that in the last few years, babies tend to be larger because of gestational diabetes.
Gestational diabetes occurs when the blood sugar increases during pregnancy, which commonly happens during the second and third trimester. This, however, usually disappears after giving birth. Luckily, Baby Carleigh was released after her test results showed that she is in good health, although she can’t seem to fit the newborn diapers and clothes her parents bought her.
The Corbitts said that they had contacted diaper companies like Pampers and Huggies to help them out and possibly switch the diapers they initially purchased to bigger sized diapers. Even the clothes they prepared do not fit, and they had to donate them to the local church instead. At three weeks old, she already wears a size 3 diaper and her clothes in the size that normally fits 9-month old babies.
Larry also mentioned that the pregnancy looked “rough” for his wife, she has anemia and had to get three blood transfusions during the delivery because she has low iron. The couple both agreed that they won’t have any more babies after Baby Carleigh, she will be their last kid.
Baby Carleigh’s story is garnering a lot of attention, proud parents did not expect her to be popular. Other than being a huge baby, they said that she is not different from other normal newborns.
