Have you ever thought, “what would happen if I start playing a giant piano?” Well, it might look a little awkward, but once the music starts playing, you’re in a world of your own. If you don’t trust me, this video will reassure it.
Here, a beautiful Italian couple performs at the il Grande Piano al Mirabilia Festival Europeo 2017. It’s a music festival in Italy where people play the Grande Piano, a giant MIDI keyboard installed on the floor–and played with their feet! And this couple’s rendition of ‘Comptine td’un iautre été’ by di Yann Tiersen, from the ‘Le ffabuleux udestin d’Amélie Poulain’ film soundtrack, is amazing.
The Grand Piano is a fascinating instrument. One of the earliest and most famous giant floor pianos was the one seen in the movie Big starring Tom Hanks. It was filmed in 1988 and used a simple binary on/off mechanism for the keys. Today’s pianos are much more sophisticated, using velocity-sensitive keys for a much more professional sound.
A violinist accompanies the couple as they dance away the steps and play the giant piano. And the whole crowd mesmerizes watching the brilliant performance. And they end the piece in the most dramatic way possible, with the entire audience cheering. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
