67-year-old Charlotte Guttenberg of Melbourne, Florida, said she’d always wanted to have a tattoo but her now-deceased husband would not let her get one–even though he had two tattoos himself! He said, “No lady would ever have tattoos, including his wife.” After he died in 2001, Charlotte decided a few years later to get herself something special for her birthday: a tattoo.
That decision led to a ten-year trek that ultimately covered over 90% of her body in tattoos, a process that took an estimated 1,000 hours of studio time. She now considers herself “a walking art gallery.” She said some people buy art to hang it on the wall but hers is all over her body and each one has meaning to her. “I can always entertain myself looking at my tattoos.”
In 2015, Charlotte earned the distinction of holding the Guinness World Record for the most tattooed senior female (60+ years old), with 91.5% of her body covered. She says she can’t believe she’s actually the world record holder.
Charlotte continued, “The thing that I’ve found so astounding is that I’m 67 and I have young people that come up to me and talk to me and they’re like, ‘Oh you’re so cool, I wish my grandparents were as cool as you. I want to be like you when I get old. I feel honored, this is just a wonderful thing.” Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
