There are many firsts in the life of a child that are truly precious to their parents. Their first cry, walk, talk… And in this mother’s case, first hear…..
Ayla, a four-year-old girl from Texas, was born deaf. Her parents, Will and Anna Esler, had given up hope that she would ever be able to hear again. As a result, they knew they had to take extra precautions to develop her senses.
Ayla’s audiologist, Lisa Christensen, told ABC News:
“If we can make that happen right around six month of age then those kids don’t show sign of speech, language or learning delayed. They can compete with all the other normally hearing peers.”
And in Fort Worth, Texas, a team from Cooks Children’s Ear Nose and Throat hospital made the miracle happen. They gave Ayla cochelear implant of her fitting as a gift. The video below shows Alya’s mother’s reaction when she found out her baby could hear now.
On an interview, Anna says:
“Every child responds differently when their cochlear implants (CIs) are activated, and so we didn’t know what kind of reaction she would have. And even though I knew it would work, there was still some doubt in my mind, so when I saw her responding to sound I was overwhelmed by thankfulness to God and to everyone else who has been a part of this journey.”
