We all love great performances, but this one is so much more when you look at the obstacles these women have overcome.
This group of Lebanese women is a dance troupe called the “Mayyas,” which they translate from Arabic to mean “the proud walk of a lioness.” They explain that in Lebanon, life is a “daily struggle” because “being a female dancer is not fully supported yet.” What they mean is that they are at some risk pursuing dance in public because of cultural beliefs. They go on to say they happy they’ve made it to “America’s Got Talent” so they can show how strong and capable Arab women are.
From the beginning their dance is truly mesmerizing–you’ve never seen anything like it. 16 women whose bodies, arms, legs and handheld-props are perfectly synchronized to show incredible forms and designs.
I really did NOT expect this performance. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen on AGT or any other talent show. The judges can’t even talk at first because the crowd won’t sit down! And what happens next is truly special!
This video is all the more beautiful when you realize the struggles these women had just to get to the show. Watch the video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
