Lions are one of the most iconic and recognizable animals in the world. They are native to Africa and can be found in grasslands, savannas, and even some forests. They are apex predators, meaning they are at the top of the food chain and have no natural predators themselves. They are powerful hunters and can take down prey much larger than themselves, such as buffalo, wildebeest, and even elephants. But it turns out at least one of them also likes playing sports.
I knew sports are not just for humans and that some animals love them too. You might have seen some videos of dogs playing with balls or a frisbee. But I’m pretty sure you’ve never seen anything like this. At the Johannesburg Zoo in South Africa, a mighty lion named Triton passes his day not just by posing for the tourists but playing soccer as well.
Here in this video, you will watch Triton playing soccer with his zookeeper, Agnes Maluleke. Agnes is the caretaker of the carnivores here and Triton was bred in the same zoo. When Agnes tossed Triton’s favorite soccer ball towards him, he went for it and kept chasing. He clearly loves the game, batting the ball around and going after it over and over.
The lion must love playing soccer so much that he even jumped into the water while chasing it. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
