When 2020 began, nobody was thinking that they’d be spending it inside their houses. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the scenario of the whole world. Moreover, places, where crowds of people went to visit, have been empty. This includes the tourist-packed beaches of South Thailand. And this has a welcoming side effect!
Although people are having a hard time because of the Corona Virus, animals have been thriving. Without much human activity, animals have been reclaiming their space. Furthermore, Turtles are coming to empty beaches and laying eggs. Expressly, Thailand is seeing record-breaking hatching of Leatherback sea turtles in 20 years!
In the previous five years, no nests of the soft-shelled turtles had been found on the beaches of Thailand. Moreover, there have been cases where tourists have taken turtle eggs to eat. And even if baby turtles did hatch, they were often caught in fishing gear in the shores of the ocean. But due to people deserting the beaches due to the virus outbreak, a record number of 11 hatchlings have been found until now.
