Stories about bystanders stepping up to the microphone are always fun but this one is a stunner. The video got over 3 million views in the first five days it was posted and it’s because the woman’s voice is unbelievable.
Brendan Kavanagh, a British boogie-woogie piano performer also known as DrK, is set up on the street and calls out to what he thinks is a random woman walking by carrying a guitar. After demurring at first, she tells him she is a “classical” singer and agrees to sing Schubert’s version of the “Ave Maria.”
What happens next is a stunner.
The woman is Jessica Norton and her YouTube channel only had about 10,000 views after ten years. But within seconds it’s clear that it’s only a lack of promotion and not her voice that has kept her from widespread attention. She is absolutely incredible–her operatic voice can easily bring you to tears.
You don’t need to be a fan of classical or religious music or opera to love this street performance. So cool. Watch the video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
