Fairy tales do come true for some people and you don’t always have to be a princess or a superstar for this to happen. But in this case, it does happen to a princess and a young actor who was on his way to becoming a superstar at the time.
John Travolta was at a White House ball in 1985 and he did not expect to have a dance with the world’s most loved and famous celebrity. Princess Diana was the sensation of the world news and headlines all over the world at that time and John was the last one to assume he’d get to dance with her. But it turns out Nancy Reagan had plans for him: she asked him to ask Diana to dance.
John recalls, “My heart starts to race, you know, and I tap her on the shoulder and she turns around and looks at me, and she had that kind of bashful dip [of her chin] that she did, and she looked up at me, and I said, ‘Would you care to dance with me?’. “It was a storybook moment,” said Travolta.
“We bowed when it was over, and, you know, she was off, and I was off, and my carriage turned into a pumpkin.” Watch the video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
