We’re used to identical twins looking and sometimes even acting the same. However, this pair of twins is different and I think this story will touch your heart.
Lukas and Ben Caldwell were like most sets of twins, dressing and acting alike, until they reached the age of seven. Lukas noticed changes to his face and doctors confirmed he had Perry Rhomberg Syndrome, a rare condition that involves a slow breakdown and wasting away (atrophy) of the skin and soft tissues of the face. It can also cause the muscles, cartilage, and bones of the face to deteriorate. Parry-Romberg syndrome can affect the brain and cause neurological problems, as well as involve the jaws and eyes. It usually occurs on the left side of the face, with progressive shrinking and deterioration.
As Lukas got worse, Ben defended him more and more. The bond between the two was unbreakable. But in high school Lukas distinguished himself by starting a TikTok account to explain what his disease was and what it was like to live with it. What happened next was amazing: he garnered millions of followers and rose to social media fame!
