Most of us can’t move like professional dancers, but we know how to tap our foot and nod our head, don’t we? The video below features an incredible dance style that’s amazing even if you’ve seen it before.
It’s called Forró and it originated in Northeastern Brazil, where the term actually can refer to the musical genre, rhythm, dance or even an event itself where forró music is played and danced. It is characterized by lively and energetic movements, often performed in pairs, with close physical contact between the dancers.
People often mistake Forro for salsa or samba and Americans might even say it sounds like zydego, often referred to as “Cajun” music. But forró is proudly Brazilian and most of the best dancers are too. And regardless of origins or heritage, it’s obviously a social dance that brings people together, fostering a sense of community and joyous celebration.
The video below shows dancers Valmir and Juzinha performing at the Forró de Domingo Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, the largest forró festival outside Brazil. It looks like a great party and their moves are going to leave you in awe! Watch this amazing dance routine below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
