In 2013, the City of Merced Fire Department of California took the internet by storm. But the reason wasn’t because of a fire they put out; it was because of the “hosing” technique they used. An inconsiderate driver blocked a fire hydrant when he parked his car right in front of it. Unluckily, a fire broke out at a business nearby.
The fire engineer was forced to throw the hose directly through the driver’s car, while shattering both windows. According to the deputy chief of the department, Don Long, his engineer did the only thing he really could in the situation. “He just took his hydrant wrench and took out the driver’s side, walked over took out the passenger side”, he says. This is a powerful reminder not to park your car in front of a fire hydrant.
