When you’re out at sea, you can’t really predict what you may come across. You might be able to plan your journey based on the weather, and predict the direction and other conditions at sea. But there are some things that you have no control over. For instance, sailors in the past have reported of seeing mermaids! Even today, you might encounter some strange and wonderful sights at sea.
If you are lucky, you can come across a traveling pod of dolphins or whales. You might even be able to observe jellyfish as they pass. But a naval team from Sri Lanka saw something unbelievable while on a routine roundup. They saw a huge mass floating in the sea, and at a closer look, they realized that it was an Asiatic Elephant.
Sri Lanka is known for its seas, beaches, and elephants. But to have an elephant venture so far out to sea was unusual and shocking. Thankfully, the naval team called for backup and immediately set out to rescue the elephant. Divers went close to soothe the elephant and tie a towrope around his gigantic body. It was quite a struggle to do so, but with teamwork and great effort, they were finally able to bring the elephant to land.
It’s strange how an elephant ended up so far out at sea, but he was fortunate enough to be rescued by such a dedicated team! Watch the amazing video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
