Every once in a while I come across something so unexpected that I can’t wait to share it, and that’s how I felt about this beautiful dance routine. It’s hard to explain just what it is but after a minute or two you’ll know what I mean when I say it’s breathtaking.
The two dancers are known as Duo Destiny and this acrobatic dance performance is taken from the 39th Mondial Festival du Cirque de Demain in Paris, France. According to the French Convention and Visitors Bureau, “The Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain, overseen by Alain Pacherie, is one of the world’s biggest circus festivals. Each year dozens of acrobats, tightrope walkers, clowns, jugglers, and trapeze artists bring together their experiences, hopes, talents, and energies in one of the biggest international competitions. This is a fantastic springboard for young artists who are often ready for that next step, the majority of whom have been dazzling audiences in some of the world’s biggest circuses.”
Duo Destiny’s principals are Goncalo Roque and Kinga Grzeskow, who are both world class gymnasts. They’ve worked together since 2015 and danced in festivals, clubs and contests around the world. Goncalo is a native of Portugal and Kinga is from Poland.
This act is entitled “Hand-to-Hand Bench Act,” one of a number of what they call “ground” acts (as opposed to their aerial acts performed on trapeze-like swings in the air). There is such drama and emotion conveyed through their expression and their dance that I had to share this with everyone.
