“I Will Always Love You” has always been one of my favorite Dolly Parton songs. Written and sung by singer-songwriter Dolly Parton, the country track was released in 1974, as the second single from Parton’s 13th studio album, “Jolene.” I know, I know, it’s hard to believe two songs that iconic were included on the same album!
The song was a tribute to her former partner and mentor, Porter Wagoner, whom she had worked with for several years. The song received positive reviews and attained amazing commercial success too–it his #1 on the Billboard Country Hot 100–but it was only when Whitney Houston recorded a version for the 1992 film The Bodyguard that it became the mega-hit that it is today. Since then it has become one of the bestselling singles of all time. This beautiful song can give anyone chills.
Whitney’s version became a global sensation and is widely considered to be one of the greatest vocal performances in history. The song won numerous awards, including a Grammy for Record of the Year that year.
This amazing video shows Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood performing the beautiful song live. It’s an amazing performance that gave me goosebumps and I feel confident you’ll get them too. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
