If you own a dog, chances are, you allow them up on your bed. We love to snuggle with our pets, don’t we? But sadly, dogs carry a number of dangerous bacteria and fungi. That’s why Inside Edition decided to determine exactly what kind of germs they carry and how likely they are to pass them on to humans.
They first met with a 19-year-old girl called Leah, who owns three dogs. She loves her pooches and she loves to cuddle with them. However, she didn’t really think about the germs that they bring along. So she agreed to have her dogs tested for bacteria and fungi. The results shocked her. Her three dogs collectively carried more than 20 different types of bacteria, and four different strains of fungi. All three of them also carried E. coli on their paws. E. coli infection can cause stomach problems, nausea, and vomiting in humans.
However, Leah wasn’t the only one that got the harrowing news. Another dog owner, Shauna, decided to test her dogs too. And the results were just as scary. One of her dogs tested positive for a strain that could cause pneumonia, meningitis, and UTIs.
Despite the frightening results, both of the ladies said that they were still going to allow their dogs up on the bed. However, they said they were going to implement some precautions. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
