This is truly a heartwarming video–we get to share some good news with a wonderful golden retriever and watch her reaction. It’s enough to bring you to tears.
This golden, Lily, has had it rough recently. She had a six-pound (2.5 kg) tumor removed from her spleen and the doctors had told her owner that in 25 years of practice, they had never had one that wasn’t cancerous. So they sent tissue to be tested.
According to estimates, approximately 25% to 50% of dogs are affected by cancer during their lifetime, so the owners’ worry for Lily is not unfounded. And certain dog breeds have a higher predisposition to specific types of cancer–and Golden Retrievers are one of them.
To get her prepared, Mom tells Lily, “I need you to sit down for this”–and she does. Mom then breaks the news, but it’s all good: NO CANCER. Mom is overjoyed but it’s so heartening to watch Lily’s reaction too. Congratulations, Lily, for dodging the Big C.
