According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1-3 out of every 1,000 babies born in the United States have some level of hearing loss. Which means that every year, somewhere around 7,200 babies are born with hearing loss.
And there are a number of videos like this on the internet, kids hearing for the first time, and I’ve even posted a couple. But this baby’s reaction is so wonderful that I wanted to share another one.
This boy was born deaf and has never heard his parents’ voices. When they put in the first hearing aid and the boy hears a sound, he stops everything: what was that? He’s so surprised, he even spits out his pacifier the second time he hears it. The narrator explains the boy is having trouble figuring out what’s going on because the parents have on masks.
So Dad takes off his mask and says something and this time, there’s no mistaking the baby’s reaction–it’s pure joy.
