Parenting is an overwhelming experience: it brings indescribably happiness yet comes with immense responsibilities. Parents are particularly anxious when the toddler is so young they can’t understand any of what they see and hear. Now imagine the anxiety of having a newborn that is incapable of these basic senses.
The clip below, however, shows how resilient and ingenious we can be when it comes to helping our children. This family has discovered dad can calm Gideon, who is both deaf and blind, by blowing raspberries on his cheeks. After feeling the touch, Gideon comes at ease from constant crying. When there is a will, there is a way indeed.
The family said that before the got his diagnosis of deaf and blind, they thought it odd that this was the only way they could make him stop crying. But after hearing the diagnosis, it made much more sense.
This is a pretty rare condition–only about 40-100 children are born both deaf and blind each year. Poor Gideon, we hope he’s doing well. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!.
