Hiking or cycling through the wilderness or the mountains can be a bit risky because you never know what you will see or who you will meet, or maybe it’s who you will see or what you will meet. Like, in this case, a massive predator blocking your path!
Mountain lions, also known as cougars, pumas, or panthers, are majestic and powerful big cats that inhabit various regions across the Americas. They are the fourth-largest wild cat species in the world, after tigers, lions, and jaguars. Mountain lions are known for their agility, strength, and adaptability, making them formidable predators.
These solitary hunters have a wide distribution, ranging from the Canadian Rockies down to the southern tip of South America. They thrive in diverse habitats such as forests, deserts, grasslands, and mountains. Adults can weigh between 90 to 190 pounds (40 to 86 kilograms) and measure up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) in length, including their tail.
This man is a cyclist who thought it was just a normal day for him riding the trails, until he came upon this big cat. Mountain lions are are highly skilled ambush predators but are also known for their ability to take down prey that is much larger than themselves. What’s even worse is that once he encounters it, he thinks he’s safe when it walks away, then it comes back right at him!
