Over the last decade or so, it’s become quite common for wedding proposals to become big, public spectacles. Gone are the days when it was done quietly in private–in the age of the internet, there’s often a desire to make it into a publicity event, complete with photographers and sometimes even more. Most of us have seen the videos of flash mobs and surprise proposals in all kinds of locations.
But I like this one because, even in the age of the internet, it’s a bit unique. This Australian couple was having an outing, attending the bird show at the Australia Zoo, when the bird handler announced the red-tailed black cockatoo needed a volunteer to hold up a five-dollar note.
The girl is obviously excited and does just that, holding up the bank note. The cockatoo flies up, lands on her outstretched arm, takes the note and flies back to the bird handler. The handler then announces to the crowd that the bird would “bring back a receipt” to the girl and the cockatoo again flies to her outstretched arm.
The handler then announces that the girl needs to open the receipt and check it out “to make sure it has all the correct details.” But when she reads it, her hand flies to her mouth just as her boyfriend drops to one knee–this is special to watch.
