The world has made great strides towards making a better place for women. It is said that there has never been a better time to be a woman than now. Women of today can enjoy more liberty and control than the ones before them. Sadly, not all women in the world get to experience the same level of freedom and empowerment. There are still countries and regions where women are kept severely dominated and treated as objects. For instance, child marriage is rampant in countries like Yemen.
This video shows a powerful message about the girl child. It shows a girl of 12, getting ready to marry a man of 37. All eyes are on her as she walks towards the altar. But when the priest asks her if she takes him as her husband, she says no and walks away. This video perfectly shows how absurd it is for girls that young to marry. I just hope that the world will be free from this practice soon!
This whole thing was actually planned by an organization based in Norway in order to spread more light on the issue. And thanks to them, many people now know about such terrible cases. It might not be that simple in real life, but it is still a small step to awareness. On the occasion of the UN’s International Day of the Girl Child, Plan Norway invited all to Norway’s first official child wedding. It was such a powerful message that this video gave.
While the world has come far in the fair treatment of women, there is still so much work to be done for the true equality of women worldwide.
