Alligators that live in bayou swamps are some of the most iconic animals of the wetland habitat. These large reptiles are often seen basking in the sun along the banks of the rivers, and are an important part of the food web of the bayou. Alligators primarily feed on fish, turtles, and snakes, but they also feed on small mammals like nutria and rats. And, if one gets too close, maybe a cat.
Keep in mind, alligators have strong jaws, powerful tails and grow up to 20 feet (nearly 7m) long. But amazingly, this feisty little cat named Mugsy didn’t hesitate to confront two dangerously big alligators to protect his human pals.
The video starts slightly after the initiating event, when a boy was walking near the edge of the bayou and this alligator came out. That’s when Mugsy swoops in to protect the humans and territory. As the gator comes closer, Mugsy gets in a defensive position and actually swats the gator. He ultimately stares it down.
But the gator comes back a little bit later with reinforcements–a second gator! You’ll never believe what happens. Watch the full video below and please leave us a Facebook comment to let us know what you thought!
