A curious cat snuck into the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, on Saturday night and drew the attention of thousands of football fans.
During the first quarter of a game between the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Appalachian State Mountaineers, a stray cat wandered onto the upper deck of the stands. The terrified cat jumped over the railing and dangled 50 feet above the ground.

The cat clutched at some fabric, but those below knew he couldn’t keep it up for long. Fans screamed in horror as the cat’s grip began to slip.
“They were trying to grab it from above and they couldn’t reach it, but they were scaring it downward,” Craig Cromer, a facilities manager at the University of Miami, told NBC Miami. “It hung there for a little while with its two front paws, then one paw, then I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, it’s coming soon.’”
A cat survived a dramatic fall Saturday inside a packed American football stadium, after fans created a makeshift net with an American Flag to safely catch the feline. 😱
The stadium later tweeted to confirm the cat was safe… 😅🏟 pic.twitter.com/IjTWEILa2i

Cromer and his wife have season tickets and bring an American flag to every game. The quick-thinking pair unhooked the flag from the railing where it was draped and held it up just as the cat fell. As the cat bounced into the flag, they made the best catch of the game. As the crowd cheered in response, nearby fans held up the uninjured cat for all to see.
The cat was picked up and escorted to safety by stadium security personnel. The stadium announced on Twitter that they had made a donation in the cat’s honor to the Humane Society of Greater Miami and encouraged others to do the same.
