Here’s an amazing video clip that shows just how incredible nature is, even when it’s trying to tell us, “stay away!”
This video shows a microscopic marine organism (also known as a dinoflagellate) called a Lingulodinium polyedrum that actually “lights up” when it perceives danger. This phenomenon, called bioluminescence, is found among multiple species of dinoflagellates. It results from the reaction of chemicals and only lasts about 0.1 seconds in each organism.
This video, taken off the coast of California, is amazing to watch. We may be used to seeing this type of scene in computer-animated movies, but to see it in real life is terrific.

Dinoflagellates, when jostled: ✨✨✨This cosmic blue glow is the defense mechanism of a microscopic marine algae called Lingulodinium polyedra, which bloomed in huge numbers off the coast of southern California last month.
