People usually take the gift of sight for granted. Not everyone has 20/20 vision. Moreover, some people may have conditions that impair their vision. One of those people is Gene Purdie. He was diagnosed with a condition called Stargardt’s when he was 16 years old. Specifically, the disease affects the retina, which makes the central vision blurry.
Gene is legally blind and cannot see faces, features and has great difficulty reading. However, he has not let this disability drag him down. He is a loving husband to his wife, Joy, and together they have a two-year-old named Lincoln. Furthermore, he’s a fantastic cook! So, Joy has always had a dream of helping Gene’s vision. Her wish came true when she stumbled onto the Rachael Ray show.
It was an episode where the host, along with a special pair of glasses, was able to help a woman with Stargardt’s see for the first time. So, Joy wrote a letter to the show saying that all she wanted was for her husband to see her face. Fortunately, they were able to get on the show. With the eSight glasses on, Gene saw his wife’s face for the first time. And no surprise, his mind was blown. Additionally, he also got to see baby Lincoln.
