Elephants are one of the most beautiful creatures on earth. They are also some of the most intelligent. However, we human beings haven’t treated them very well. We cage them for entertainment purposes, we slaughter them for their medicinal value, and we hunt them for sport. Sook-Jai is one of these unfortunate elephants that was held captive by humans and was forced to work many different jobs over the course of her life.
She moved from job to job and belonged to many different owners. She worked tirelessly until she couldn’t anymore. But finally she got a chance to be free from all that. The 73 year old elephant was finally rescued and transferred to safety of her new home. When they arrived at the Park, Sook Jai raised her trunk to smell the new place and sent low rumbles out into the field, tears running down her face.
Her eyes are dim and her hearing is faint, but let’s hope she will be happy from here on out!
