We all worry about dry turkey at Thanksgiving but this celebrity chef shows us a way to ensure that doesn’t happen, and add some incredible flavor too!
Gordon Ramsay is a chef, restauranteur and TV show celebrity probably best known for his “Hell’s Kitchen” series where he is, to put it nicely, very blunt with the contestants. But Ramsay does know what he’s talking about and his restaurants are widely recognized as having excellent food.
This video gives us two separate recipes for making a holiday turkey, but we’ll only focus on the first one (feel free to also watch the second). Ramsay makes an herb-and-butter rub for his turkey, stuffs it with onion and lemon, and does a two-stage bake where he starts hot-and-fast to crisp up the outside, then goes with low-and-slow for the full bake. The bacon on top is a nice touch to prevent over-browning and add some extra flavor.
One nice thing about this recipe is you can do the prep work ahead time and so that Thanksgiving morning, all you have to do is put it in the oven. Please ensure you convert the temperatures he gives in Celsius to Fahrenheit if you are in the U.S.!
One other critical thing to note is Gordon’s comment about letting the turkey rest. That’s one of the most important steps to Thanksgiving turkey but is often overlooked.
